Ascension Dash
A downloadable game for Windows
How to play:
The Entity is able to only dash forward and rotate around, however you can control dash strength by holding the key for a certain amount of time.
In order to stay alive, the Entity has to constantly gather Energy and replenish its waning Life. However, the Energy is always surrounded by deadly Void, so extreme caution is necessary in order to survive.
To beat the game you have to deposit 50 Energy into the Ascension node. You can gather Energy in the field below the nodes, and every 40 seconds the field can be manually refreshed. If you have enough Energy, you can deposit it into appropriate nodes to replenish Life, increase lifetime and Energy limit.
All necessary information is displayed directly below the Entity: dash strength, gathered Energy and remaining Life. Pay attention to each, stay concentrated and you will Ascend.
Controls:
W (Hold / Release) - Dash forward
A / D - Rotate CCW / CW
Esc - Pause (Might have to press a few times)

P.S.
I made this game for the GameDev.tv Game Jam 2023 in 5 days. Due to time and resource limitations I tried my best to focus on the game design around one simple mechanic and grayscale aesthetic. It was an amazing experience and I learned a lot of new tricks to make my future projects better. I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave your honest feedback and overall impressions in the comments below. And if you managed to beat the game, please post your time!
P.P.S.
1.1.0 update plan:
- Procedurally generated or simply better void patterns
- Infinite play area with "portable" upgrade nodes
- Better sound design
- Full settings menu
- Tutorial
- Ending cutscene
- Revamped control scheme
